Chronic traumatic encephalopathy: what do parents of youth athletes know about it? https://t.co/qio1hHSXzw

— Concerned Mom (@ConcernedMom9) October 9, 2018
Of 337 parents
with children

 in contact sports,

o
nly 33%
say they are
"somewhat or very familiar
with CTE."

81.7%

have not received
educational materials

on CTE.

54%
believe coaches

are "preferred providers"
for info. about CTE.

.Our Mission: Outreach

If we want to protect students
from the debilitating consequences
of recurrent brain trauma,
on-campus outreach

is needed.
Teachers, parents & students
deserve to know
the facts

about
collision sports
and brain health.

.Our Mission: Prevention

Prevention of TBI is essential in reducing the risk of developing dementia later on in life. https://t.co/iALyDJXiNs

— Concerned Mom (@ConcernedMom9) October 22, 2018

The only way to protect young minds
from invisible, irreparable harm
is to promote prevention.

On-campus outreach
is the most effective way
to provide information
to the people who need it most.

Offering safer sporting options
in our schools

will increase

the number of students
who can participate
.

This is what
our public schools
should provide --

opportunities
for ALL kids
where the focus is
on academics
and injury prevention.

.The Challenge:

Here, here AAP pediatricians should "first do no harm", and call for reversal of kiddie tackle football policy.
In AAP 1957 rejected kiddie tackle, they got it right.

— Jo Cornell (@JoCornell4) January 30, 2019

The very existence of collision sports
in schools exerts enormous pressure
on students & explicitly endorses
physical violence as entertainment.

Schools should say NO to the:
BLOCK, BODYCHECK, HEADER, TACKLE
& YES to Age-Appropriate Sport!

"Waiting for the powers that be
to protect our children
from powerful industry
hasn't worked out so well
 in the past."

Your tax-deductible donations
will help fund
on-campus outreach
all across the country.

"Not my child, not my problem"
means millions of young people
will continue to suffer
INVISIBLE DAMAGE
.
Equating the value of any sport
with the well-being of students
is indefensible. Safer options exist.
Our schools owe a duty of care.

Contact your alma mater(s) today.
Ask your teachers/professors

why they are complicit in this abuse.

It's also possible that high schools - and maybe schools in general! - will start to question whether a sport like football, which carries a significant brain damage risk, actually aligns with their institutional mission to nurture and protect young brains.

“Amidst the loud, revving engines of medicalization, we need to remain steadfastly focused
on interventions and reforms that will influence and impact the key institutions, social systems
and public policies that are the fundamental drivers of health inequities.”
