Brain condition CTE seen in H.S. football players: study https://t.co/ZA7pYhh8nJ via @medical_xpress #CTE #TBI

— NFLCSFacts (@NFLObjectors) February 21, 2019

The physics of a football tackle or a block almost always result in trauma to the brain. It’s undeniable. If I knew then what I know now I would never let my son play football. Intelligent people who played the game over an extended period and often at a high level know this.

— Mark Roopenian (@Roopy9989) February 17, 2019

"B/c there are over 3 million football players in the US every year, that’s one reason this is a public health issue," @bachyns explains why head trauma in football is a public health issue & safety interests should come before entertainment https://t.co/MBewmawKw5 @nyulangone

AN ARRAY OF RISKS

Anything’s possible I suppose.
Important to remember repeated head trauma has been linked to many life altering conditions in addition to CTE, including Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, dementia, stokes, etc.

#MyTurn follows #Michican #NHL ice hockey player Scott Matzka's journey with #ALS #MND.

Scott died on 16 December 2018 at the age of 40.

It is NOT rare! The reason so few are living with this horror is because so many are dying!#RareDC2019 @cardiffdevils @CarBombBoom13 https://t.co/pa0UshBNMw

Yes, media reports need recognize what we don’t yet know. Most I have read have done that.

More relevant here: “Do no harm” principle applies to treating people, not media treatment of science. Best to way to do that is to encourage less banging of brains, as science evolves.

EXPERIENTIAL BLINDNESS
“A number of international human-rights organizations including the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, and the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights have stated that physical punishment of any kind is a violation of children's human rights.”

Medical science has proven beyond a doubt that it is prudent to reduce head impacts across the lifespan.
Reason says that one of the best ways to do this is to pull your kiddies out of brain-bashing sports.
